Jakob Lebaron Dwight - Painter/Digital Media Artist
Atlanta, GA
Jakob Lebaron Dwight - January 13 2011 - February 27 2011
Artist Statement
Trained as a painter and studied in philosophy, the media works of Jakob LeBaron Dwight fuse both electronic and analog painting and drawing techniques, photo collage, and video to create an incorporeal vision that strives for the mythopoetic and expressionistic, the ritualistic and conceptual. Many of his works offer themselves as meditations upon the organic forms and processes of our universe.
In his exploration of the aesthetics of light and in his questioning of painting’s potential role in contemporary art discourse, Dwight can be seen as a successor to the late Jeremy Blake. Additionally, Dwight's work engages a dialogue between abstract expressionist painting and contemporary motion graphics.
Dwight exhibits nationally and internationally, having shown in Switzerland, Austria, Japan, Germany, Mexico, New York City, and Atlanta. Coming off of a 3-month artist-in-residence stint in Berlin, his show at Papillion Institute of Art will be his first exhibit in Los Angeles, and his first U.S. show since his highly successful JLD studio launch at New York City’s White Box art space in the summer of 2010.
JLD Studio is the artist’s Factory-styled creative platform and art production house that is slated to have its collaborative hand in the realms of art, fashion, architecture, design, and music.
